OVERVIEW

From pre-production through to final TVC delivery, I led the project end to end. As the lead editor and motion designer, I collaborated closely with the film director and senior creatives to edit the entire film, create all hand-drawn animations and motion graphics, carry out motion tracking, roto work, and Unreal Engine 5 rendering for the end frame, and prepare the final broadcast deliverables for Clearcast and Peach.

Pre-prod

ROTO TEST

During pre-production, I supported the producer with technical scoping and risk assessment. One of the key challenges was estimating the worst-case time required to rotoscope pets while ensuring the hand-drawn doodle animations would work convincingly with the live-action footage. To validate both the production estimate and the creative approach, I carried out a proof-of-concept by rotoscoping a fluffy white cat and testing the animation workflow. The successful test gave the team and client confidence in the casting decisions, reduced production risk, and confirmed the proposed animation style would integrate seamlessly into the final film.

Tracking test

During the shoot, I worked closely with the DIT to ensure the producer and I received everything we needed, including the correct RAW footage formats, while simultaneously transcoding footage into proxy files for motion testing. One of the key priorities was validating the main product tracking shot, as the approved TVC project would later be shared with European markets to localise the product packaging. To support this workflow, the pack needed to be tracked accurately, allowing the asset to be replaced seamlessly.

I advised on the most suitable product pack for tracking, as well as the hand positioning, movement and camera angles to achieve the most reliable tracking results. Once the pack shot was captured, I immediately tested the footage in After Effects to verify the tracking workflow, confirming that the planned localisation process would work as intended. In addition, I assembled a rough edit on set for client review, providing immediate reassurance that the creative approach and technical execution were working successfully.

Post-prod

Once the footage had been ingested, I prepared the assembly edit and string-outs for the film director to review and make her selects. From there, I led the post-production process, editing the TVC, creating all motion graphics and hand-drawn animations, carrying out motion tracking and rotoscoping, and producing the animated end frame, including 3D rendering in Unreal Engine 5.

TVC Supplies

Following client sign-off, I took ownership of the final broadcast delivery workflow. I prepared and packaged all deliverables, creating clocking versions for Clearcast approval before supplying the final assets via Peach for TV broadcast. This required careful management of broadcast specifications, including export formats, colour space, LUTs, saturation and luminance levels, audio channel mapping, and multiple audio description tracks. By performing thorough technical quality assurance throughout the delivery process, I ensured every asset met UK broadcast standards and was approved without issue.
